Awards and Achievements

      
Amelia Earhart has achieved many accomplishments than any other women in that century. So, in this entry I will tell you the rewards and achievements of Amelia Earhart.

The photo shows that Amelia has received Gimbel Award as she is being the most Outstanding Woman of America for 1932. Major General Smedley Butler presenting a bag containing one thousand dollars in gold for the award. Amelia is an inspiration for the other woman because of her achievements and her spirit to make her dream come true.

May 16, 1921- Earhart received her “Aviator Pilot” certification from the Federation Aeronautique International , which is a major step for any pilot at the time. Besides, she can buy her own airplane, a small Kinner Airster which she called the Canary.


22 October 1922- In the Canary, she broke the women’s altitude record  by becoming the first woman to reach 14,000 feet in an airplane. 


18 June 1928- She was invited to become the first woman passenger to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a plane. The journey began when the Friendship, a Fokker F7 specially outfitted for the trip. The new record for the trip was 20 hours and 40 minutes and the Friendship landed in South Wales after 20 hours and 40 minutes in the air. There were many challenges and difficulties that they faced while in the trip. Amelia Earhart have gain new experience from the trip cross the Atlantic Ocean. After the trip, she was published her book titled 20 Hours 40 Minutes, toured and lectured and became aviation editor of Cosmopolitan magazine. She just sharing the experience that she had gain and the challenges that she faced in the trip until she created a record of 20 hours and 40 minutes. She felt that she did not give many efforts to Friendship but they still manage to create the record together.

August 1929- She placed third in the First Women's Air Derby, or also known the Powder Puff Derby which is an airplane race from Santa Monica, California to Cleveland, Ohio with a substantial cash prize. She upgraded from her Avian to a Lockheed Vega.

1932- She decided to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and got a record of  14 hours 56 minutes. She received a reward from National Geographic Society's gold medal from President Herbert Hoover.

Amelia Earhart has received a gold medal of National Geographic Society from President Herbert Hoover because of her continuous solo flight across the Atlantic, June 21, 1932.

24 and 25 August 1932- She become a first woman to fly solo non-stop from coast to coast. She’s flying 2,447.8 miles in 19 hours 5 minutes. Other than that, Amelia elected as a president of Ninety nines of a new women’s aviation club.

1935- She made a solo flight from Hawai to Oakland, California. This trip also made Amelia as the first person to fly solo across both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

19 and 20 April 1935- Amelia become a first person to fly solo from Los Angeles to Mexico City with her record of 13 hours 23 minutes.

8 May 1935- She also become earliest person to fly solo nonstop from Mexico City to Newark with a good record of 14 hours 19 minutes. Amelia has a high goal and aspiration where she want to be the first woman to fly solo around the world after she has gained many experience before. The spirit and strength that she had lead her to achieve the goal whatever happened. Besides, she also named America's Outstanding Airwoman by Harmon Trophy committee.

1937- She began to flight around the world with her navigator Fred Noonan.
