Awards and Achievements



      Amelia Earhart has achieved many accomplishments. Earhart received her “Aviator Pilot” certification from the Federation Aeronautique International on May 16, 1921, which is a major step for any pilot at the time. Besides, she can buy her own airplane, a small Kinner Airster which she called the Canary. In the Canary, she broke the women’s altitude record on 22 October 1922 by becoming the first woman to reach 14,000 feet in an airplane. She was invited to become the first woman passenger to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a plane on 18 June 1928. The journey began when the Friendship, a Fokker F7 specially outfitted for the trip. The new record for the trip was 20 hours and 40 minutes and the Friendship landed in South Wales after 20 hours and 40 minutes in the air. There were many challenges and difficulties that they faced while in the trip. Amelia Earhart have gain new experience from the trip cross the Atlantic Ocean. Shortly after the trip, she was published her book titled 20 Hours 40 Minutes, toured and lectured and became aviation editor of Cosmopolitan magazine. She just sharing the experience that she had gain and the challenges that she faced in the trip until she created a record of 20 hours and 40 minutes. she felt that she did not give many efforts to Friendship but they still manage to create the record together.

         On August 1929, she placed third in the First Women's Air Derby, or also known the Powder Puff Derby which is an airplane race from Santa Monica, California to Cleveland, Ohio with a substantial cash prize. She upgraded from her Avian to a Lockheed Vega. However, in 1932 she decided to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and got a record of  14 hrs 56 min. she received a reward from National Geographic Society's gold medal from President Herbert Hoover. On 24 and 25 August 1932, she become a first woman to fly solo non-stop from coast to coast. She’s flying 2,447.8 miles in 19hrs 5min. other than that, Amelia elected as a president of Ninety nines of a new women’s aviation club. In 1i35, she made a solo flight from Hawai to Oakland, California. This trip also made Amelia as the first person to fly solo across both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.



        On 19 and 20 April 1935, Amelia become a first person to fly solo from Los Angeles to Mexico City with her record of 13hrs 23min and in 8 May 1935 she also become earliest person to fly solo nonstop from Mexico City to Newark with a good record of 14hrs 19min. Amelia has a high goal and aspiration where she want to be the first woman to fly solo around the world after she has gained many experience before. The spirit and strength that she had lead her to achieve the goal whatever happened. In 1937, she began to flight around the world with her navigator Fred Noonan.
